Jordan announces three arrests in Karak church-attack investigation

Published October 26, 2026 · Official press conference account

The new development

Jordanian authorities announced three arrests in the investigation of the October 23 attack on a church in Hamoud, Karak Governorate. At an October 26 press conference reported by the official Petra news agency, the public-security director said nine people were killed and 34 injured.

What authorities say

Officials attributed the attack to extremist ideology and said investigators were still gathering evidence before referring the case to the judiciary. They stressed that the arrests do not conclude the investigation.

The government’s communications minister also warned against using the crime to generalise about religious or social communities, and called for coordinated prevention efforts across public institutions and society.

What remains unresolved

This is an account of the authorities’ allegations and investigation, not a court finding. The arrested individuals remain suspects. The official account does not establish the guilt of everyone detained or show that every potential connection has been identified.
