Utah man indicted over alleged synagogue threats

Published October 23, 2026 · DOJ announcement October 22

The new charges

A federal grand jury indicted Skyler AJ Rose, 22, of Ogden, Utah, on October 21, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Charges include attempting to commit a hate crime, making an explosive threat, and possessing an unregistered destructive device, among other offences.

The prosecution concerns online threats allegedly made in December 2025 relating to a Utah synagogue. The new development is the federal indictment, rather than a newly occurring attack.

What investigators allege

Prosecutors say investigators linked threatening social-media posts to Rose and recovered weapons and explosive devices during a residential search. The FBI and Ogden police jointly investigated the case.

What remains unresolved

An indictment states accusations; it does not establish guilt. Rose is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. DOJ scheduled his initial appearance for October 23; this briefing does not confirm that hearing’s outcome.

The case is relevant to prevention of targeted violence against places of worship. It should not be described as a terrorism conviction.
